Why Specialized Moving Matters
Protecting Soundboards, Slates, and Your Home
Pianos are precision instruments with uneven weight distribution, delicate finishes, and sensitive internal components. Whether it is an upright, baby grand, or full grand, the soundboard, action, pedals, and legs require stabilization and protection. Hermits Moving and Handyman Services uses purpose-built piano boards, padding, and strapping to secure each component, safeguard finishes, and control the center of gravity during transport.
Pool tables contain heavy, brittle slate and frames that must be fully disassembled to prevent structural damage and injury. Attempting to move a table intact can crack slate, bend rails, and harm flooring. Our team properly removes rails, pockets, and cloth, crates the slate, and protects walls, stairs, and doorways to ensure a smooth, damage-free relocation.
From Pre-Planning to Final Placement
Every move starts with a detailed pre-planning call. We inventory the piano or pool table type, take measurements and photos, survey access paths, and review building rules. On move day, we install floor protection, pad doorways, and stage equipment. Hardware and components are labeled and packed methodically so reassembly is precise and efficient.
For pool tables, we remove rails and pockets, carefully detach or preserve the cloth as requested, unbolt and crate the slate, and transport the frame separately. Reassembly includes frame squaring, slate installation, seam sealing as needed, precision leveling, and optional re-clothing. For pianos, we secure lids and keyboards, remove legs and the pedal lyre when appropriate, mount the body to a piano skid board, and use specialized dollies and stair gear for safe navigation. Final placement, leveling, and protection pads are included. We recommend allowing a settling period before piano tuning.
Licensed, Insured, and Prepared for Any Layout
Hermits Moving and Handyman Services equips each crew with heavy-duty piano boards, low-profile dollies, stair climbers, hump straps, and e-track tie-downs. We use thick quilted blankets, stretch wrap, corner guards, door jamb protectors, and Masonite or runners to shield floors. For pool tables, slate is crated or protected with edge guards and cushioning, and we maintain clean, organized hardware kits for rails and pockets.
Our trained teams follow standardized procedures for disassembly, packing, transport, and reassembly. We perform site risk assessments, communicate clearly with homeowners and building managers, and handle tight turns, multi-flight staircases, basements, and lofts with the right techniques and tools. When necessary, we remove and reinstall doors or banisters to create safe clearance.
We are fully insured and provide certificates of insurance upon request. Valuation options are available, and we document condition before and after the move. Our trucks are outfitted for secure transport, and we have weather-readiness protocols for rain, snow, heat, and cold. Expect transparent pricing, a written plan, and a workmanship standard that prioritizes your instrument, table, and property.

Rick DrummWe had Hermit's move our household contents from storage to our new home. They were professional, friendly, and efficient as well as communicated well with us. Davon (sp?) was an excellent crew leader, but all the crew was excellent. We highly recommend them.Posted on Google

Lindsay HuffMarlin and Davon were kind, respectful, thorough, and all around helpful! They are the best examples of great customer service and after moving an extremely heavy item for us, they both gave my two year old high fives on their way out. These two young men are great examples of my favorite quote. “It costs nothing to be kind” Thank you so much HMH! We will be telling our family and friends!Posted on Google
Deanna CantrellI used Hermitt's Thursday for moving and Friday for assembly of my furniture. Adrien and Dorian were the best. They were so friendly, professional, and swift with a little comedy mixed in. They wasted no time, and the price was right for my budget. I would highly recommend Hermitt's. They are now "my boys".Posted on Google
TJThe service was great and completed in a timely manner.Posted on Google
Rick EakerWant to thank Devon Wallace and Adrain Casillas for their work loading items into my attic space. They were friendly, polite, efficient and organized with their time. Then an added plus the items were placed neatly into the area. I will call for them to return when needed.Posted on Google
